Hansel throws himself into Gretel’s arms and cries.
HANSEL: Oh, Gretel? Who will take care of us?
GRETEL: Don’t worry, Hansel. I’ll take care of you. We’ll take care of each other.
Hansel dries his tears as Gretel rises from the bed.
GRETEL: But the first thing we should do is feed you.

Hansel’s POV, looking out the little window beside his bed. He can see the tree under which Stepmother is buried. There is a wooden cross marking the spot.
Hansel closes his eyes and clasps his hands—praying.
HANSEL: Dear God.
HANSEL: Please watch over Stepmother
HANSEL: She was a good woman, and she loved you very much.
Hansel stares out the window.
