No Update Today
Grug and I are working on putting together the third print issue of Gingerbread Houses this week. Unfortunately, that means no new page for the week. We’ll be back next week, though!

Unfortunately, I have trouble getting Comixpress to post two separate pages on the same day. If you follow Gingerbread Houses in an RSS reader, and only saw one page today, you should click through to the website, as I’ve posted a single combined file with both pages.
William George of the fun fantasy comic Yes You Can! is doing a series of quick six-question interviews with folks he likes, and I happen to be the first up! Read it here.
A couple more posts up at ComixTalk today, including my interview with Jim Ottaviani, writer of numerous graphic novels relating stories of true science history.
I’m guest blogging at ComixTalk.com this week, and my first article is already up. Here’s what’s coming:
I’ve just completed a complete overhaul of my other comics website, TwentySevenLetters.com. If you haven’t checked out that site yet, you’ll find a completely different collection of my comics, including experimental comics, love stories, and office life stories. You’ll also find an archive of all the writing I’ve done about comics over the years.
If you’ve been following my other blog as well, you’ll need to update your RSS link, as I’m no longer using the blogger account that blog was built on.
My good friend Steven Withrow has been working on a wonderful project these past few months–a documentary about children’s literature called “The Library of the Early Mind.” It seems the movie is just about complete, and will be premiering in Harvard in October. He just released a trailer, which you can see here.
The film features interviews with many of the best children’s authors working today, including Mo Willems, Lois Lowry, Gregory Maguire, and Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler), among many others. I’m really looking forward to the film, and hope you’ll check it out too!
I apologize for the late notice and lack of updates, but it’s been a very busy week! Grug has conventions this week, and I’ve been wrapped up in some freelance work. Updates will resume on July 1.
Want to read a really disquieting story that blends Chinese folklore with an all-too-real story of a lonely woman who makes here living brainwashing stolen children? Then Lotus Root Children is the comic for you. Sad, yet engrossing, especially in its depiction of the woman herself–she is clearly a damaged person, difficult to label as evil, even if her actions clearly demand that label. Precisely what I like to see in a story–an understanding that the people who commit acts of evil are still complex humans, just like the rest of us. They hardly ever seem like monsters, even when they are.
Credit to Barry Deutsch for the find.
Sadly, we don’t have a new page of Gingerbread Houses today, but I do have a shot of the cover of the second mini. Both images will be available for purchase at MeCAF in Portland Maine next month, where I’ll be exhibiting with The Boston Comics Roundtable.
I attended this show last year, and had a fantastic time–only comics convention I’ve ever been to where you could breathe fresh ocean air while standing behind your table!
